See How we Are

Environmentally Friendly

at Wellesley Toyota

As the first LEED Certified automotive dealership in New England, Wellesley Toyota is committed to being environmentally friendly. Although not commonly associated with automotive dealerships, we are at the forefront of pushing the industry to do business in a greener and more sustainable manner. LEED, stands for "Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design," is a rating developed and certified by the U.S. Green Building Council that shows our commitment to changing the way automotive dealerships impact the environment.

To achieve LEED Silver certification, Wellesley Toyota implemented several design and construction initiatives across six categories, as outlined by the U.S. Green Building Council. At Wellesley Toyota we are proud of these efforts and welcome all customers to come and see our facility for themselves. We believe that taking care of the environment is everyone's responsibility, and we are doing our part to make a positive impact.

Sustainable Sites

At Wellesley Toyota, we strive to be environmentally conscious and minimize our impact on ecosystems and water resources. As a LEED Silver certified building, our facility was designed and constructed with this focus in mind. One way we achieved this was by renovating our building on a previously developed site, avoiding any impact on prime farmland or wetland. Additionally, we promote development in existing urban areas, which encourages alternative transportation with our low-emission hybrids and EV line of vehicles. We also provide charging stations and preferred parking spaces for Low Emitting Fuel Efficient vehicles. Our storm water management plan directs runoff into below-ground infiltrators for recharging into the water table, and we minimize urban "heat islands" by using highly reflective roof materials, which reduces cooling loads and lowers energy consumption for A/C.

Water Efficiency

We are committed to reducing our water usage and being environmentally conscious at Wellesley Toyota. Our LEED Silver certified building includes high efficiency low flush toilets and faucets, which have resulted in a 30% reduction in our water usage. Additionally, our landscaping features plant species that require minimal watering and irrigation, further reducing our use of water resources. By implementing these initiatives, we are doing our part to conserve water and minimize our impact on the environment.

Energy & Atmosphere

Energy conservation is a top priority at Wellesley Toyota, and the company has implemented several measures to reduce its carbon footprint and improve energy efficiency. Despite having a 30% larger facility, Wellesley Toyota has achieved a 40% increase in energy efficiency, thanks to an Energy Management System and energy efficient materials. Wellesley Toyota is also the largest purchaser of renewable energy in Wellesley, MA and the company recycles automobile waste oil for heating during the winter months. In addition, the use of highly reflective roof materials, smart Energy Management System, and energy efficient lighting systems with occupancy sensors all contribute to reduced energy costs. Furthermore, Wellesley Toyota's refrigeration equipment does not use CFC's, which eliminates the possibility of atmospheric ozone depletion. These sustainable practices showcase Wellesley Toyota's commitment to being environmentally responsible.

Materials & Resources

Our dealership is committed to using sustainable practices, and this includes the use of recycled, regional, and sustainable materials while minimizing construction waste at Wellesley Toyota. During the construction of the new facility, 55% of the old building's exterior walls, floors, and roof were reused and recycled. Additionally, Wellesley Toyota used recycled content materials for steel, insulation, ceramic tile, acoustical tile, and wood throughout the new facility. The company diverted 75% of the project's construction waste from the landfill. Furthermore, the use of regionally sourced materials helped to reduce transportation costs and emissions. Wellesley Toyota's dedication to sustainable construction practices is a testament to their commitment to being environmentally responsible.

Indoor Environmental Quality

Our indoor air quality and access to daylight and views are top priorities at Wellesley Toyota. The company has taken several measures to promote better indoor air quality, such as eliminating smoking in the building and using special air filtration and entry mats to minimize pollutants. Wellesley Toyota also increases the use of outdoor air and ventilation to enhance comfort and health inside. The company uses low emitting materials for paints, adhesives, carpets, and other materials to reduce indoor air contaminants. Additionally, Wellesley Toyota utilizes daylight as the primary light source with windows for all regularly occupied areas, and occupancy sensors minimize electrical consumption when the building is unoccupied while maximizing the use of daylight as the primary light source. The company also uses "Green" cleaning products for all housekeeping activities. These practices demonstrate Wellesley Toyota's commitment to providing a healthy and sustainable environment for their employees and customers.

Innovation in Design

At Wellesley Toyota, creative ideas and processes that exceed design goals are always welcomed. As part of their sustainability efforts, the company uses LEED Certified interior furniture, wallpaper, and tiles, all sourced locally and built from LEED Certified manufacturing plants to minimize environmental impact. Wellesley Toyota also demonstrates its commitment to reducing environmental impact through innovative approaches to construction. For example, the company crushed pre-existing asphalt at the dealership and reused it when laying down new asphalt, reducing the environmental impact of shipping in new asphalt. By utilizing such creative and innovative approaches, Wellesley Toyota is leading the way in sustainable practices within the automotive industry, ensuring a more sustainable future for all.
